SUMMARY:From Fatigue to Performance: Understanding Running Economy and Gait Mechanics
DESCRIPTION:COMPLETE THE RSVP FORM BELOW TO SAVE YOUR SPOT. LIMITED TO 75 LIVE PARTICIPANTS \n\n\n\nLearn how gait mechanics\, movement efficiency\, and running economy influence fatigue\, performance\, and injury risk—and discover practical strategies you can immediately apply in training and clinical practice. \n\n\n\nHow does fatigue change movement\, performance\, and injury risk—and what can we do about it as sports medicine clinicians?\n\n\n\nJoin us on Saturday July 11th from 9-10 am at the Spooner Sports Institute to learn more. \n\n\n\nRunning economy is one of the most studied markers of endurance performance and provides valuable insight into how fatigue influences athletic movement. As fatigue accumulates during training and competition\, athletes often experience measurable changes in biomechanics\, movement efficiency\, and physiological performance. This presentation will explore the current evidence surrounding fatigue-induced changes in running economy and gait mechanics as a model for understanding broader fatigue-related adaptations in sport. \n\n\n\nAttendees will learn from sports physiologists and gain a deeper understanding of how fatigue affects movement efficiency and performance\, which biomechanical metrics appear most sensitive to performance decline\, and how lessons learned from endurance runners can be applied across athletic populations to inform training and rehabilitation.  \n\n\n\nAfter this session\, attendees will be able to:\n\n\n\n\nExplain the key factors that influence running economy\n\n\n\nIdentify common gait mechanics associated with increased energy cost\n\n\n\nRecognize movement patterns that may contribute to fatigue and injury\n\n\n\nApply practical coaching and clinical strategies to improve running efficiency\n\n\n\nTranslate current evidence into real-world athlete care\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend?\n\n\n\nPhysical Therapists\, Athletic Trainers\, Physical Therapist Assistants\, Sports Medicine Physicians\, Running Coaches\, Strength & Conditioning Professionals\, Students Interested in Sports Medicine \n\n\n\nAthletic Trainers: Better understand the relationship between biomechanics\, workload\, fatigue\, and injury risk. \n\n\n\nPhysical Therapists: Explore current evidence and clinical applications related to running gait and economy. \n\n\n\nStrength & Conditioning Professionals + Running Coaches: Gain practical insights to help athletes move more efficiently and perform at a higher level. \n\n\n\nApproved for: 1 Cat A Con Ed for ATs\, Cat B for PTs \n\n\n\nMeet the Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlexa Lobato: Alexa Lobato\, MS\, is the Head Performance Physiologist at Human Powered Health. Prior to joining Human Powered Health in 2024\, she worked in collegiate and professional sports\, including Major League Soccer\, before founding Optimum Athletics\, a mobile human performance assessment company born from her passion for making comprehensive\, data-driven performance testing more accessible. Her experience spans everyone from beginner youth athletes to elite competitors and active adults\, with a background that bridges research\, rehabilitation\, and performance. \n\n\n\nOutside of work\, Alexa has always been drawn to strength training\, with the weight room serving as the foundation of her own fitness journey. Since moving to Arizona and joining Human Powered Health\, she has developed a growing appreciation for endurance sports. As both a strength athlete and beginner endurance athlete\, she values the unique challenges and rewards that different forms of physical activity provide and believes movement is a powerful tool. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarson Gantzer: Carson Gantzer\, CSCS is a Performance Physiologist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist at Human Powered Health with experience working with general population and athletes ranging from youth soccer players to professional combat sport athletes. Prior to joining Human Powered Health\, Carson was a strength and conditioning coach for professional fighters and Olympic-level wrestlers and served as a lecturer at South Mountain Community College\, teaching courses on exercise physiology\, cardiovascular exercise\, and resistance training. During his master’s studies at Arizona State University\, he conducted research on neuromuscular fatigue and injury prevention in youth soccer players. Outside of work\, he is an avid runner and cyclist and continues to support professional combat sport athletes with strength and conditioning. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Sports Medicine Professional Seminar: July 2026\n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner Sports Medicine.PhoneWhat organization are you associated with (team\, club\, school\, business\, etc)?*Do you plan to attend live?\n \n I plan to attend live at the Spooner Sports Institute\n \n \n Please send me the recording\n How did you hear about the event?*A Spooner team memberA friend or family memberA Spooner emailSocial MediaSearch EngineOtherPlease submit any specific questions you are hoping to have covered at the event here:Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium. SUMMARY:Strength Training for Longevity: The Missing Piece of Aging Well
DESCRIPTION:This event has reached its capacity!\n\n\n\nPlease join the waitlist below to be informed of potential openings and future events. \n\n\n\nAs physical therapists\, we do an excellent job reducing pain and restoring movement—but maintaining those gains over the long term requires more than therapy alone. \n\n\n\nOne of the strongest predictors of independence\, fall prevention\, and long-term quality of life as we age is muscle strength. Without it\, even successful rehabilitation outcomes can slowly fade. \n\n\n\nThis free educational seminar is designed to bridge the gap between physical therapy and long-term strength\, confidence\, and independence. \n\n\n\nSEMINAR DETAILS\n\n\n\nWhat This Seminar Covers \n\n\n\nLed by Payson Staats\, a personal trainer who works closely alongside our physical therapy team\, this session focuses on how adults can safely transition from rehabilitation into sustainable\, lifelong strength training. \n\n\n\nDuring this seminar\, you’ll learn: \n\n\n\n\nWhy strength is critical for aging well and maintaining independence\n\n\n\nCommon misconceptions about strength training later in life\n\n\n\nHow strength training differs from physical therapy—and how the two work best together\n\n\n\nHow to build and maintain strength safely\, even with joint pain or a history of injury\n\n\n\nThis is education only—there will be no exercise session and no obligation to participate in training.\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend \n\n\n\nThis seminar is especially appropriate for: \n\n\n\n\nCurrent or former physical therapy patients\n\n\n\nAdults who want to protect the progress they’ve made in therapy\n\n\n\nIndividuals looking to reduce the likelihood of recurring pain\, falls\, or future limitations\n\n\n\nAnyone unsure whether strength training is safe for them\n\n\n\nIf you’ve ever wondered “What should I be doing after PT?”—this session is for you.\n\n\n\n\nDate: Friday\, February 27\, 2026Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PMLocation: Spooner Scottsdale – 9097 E. Desert Cove Ave. Suite 110 Scottsdale\, AZ 85260Cost: Free (registration required)Space is limited to ensure a comfortable learning environment. Reserve Your Spot Today! \n\n\n\nThis is a purely educational opportunity we are pleased to offer to our community. SUMMARY:FREE COMMUNITY INJURY SCREENS
DESCRIPTION:Don’t be sidelined by an injury this season.Book your free injury screen at Spooner Rockwall today. \n\n\n\nEarly detection prevents pain\, saves playing time\, and keeps you in the game performing at your best. \n\n\n\nSaturday August 9th 10:00 am-12:00 pm Spooner Rockwall 3101 Fit Sports Life BlvdSuite 102 Rockwall\, TX 75032(in the AmeriSports complex) \n\n\n\nSAVE YOUR SPOT BY COMPLETING THE FORM BELOW \n\n\n\nWhat is an injury screen:The injury screen is a time-tested tool developed and utilized by Spooner Sports Medicine clinicians to assess athletes of all levels. The injury screen involves a series of tests designed to assess an athlete’s movement mechanics and range of motion. Our goal is to help the athlete identify areas of opportunity for improved mobility\, flexibility\, strength\, and control. \n\n\n\nAfter the injury screen:The Spooner team will review the results of the injury screen at an individual level. The key findings from the screen will be utilized to provide exercises designed to improve performance and minimize the chance of injury. \n\n\n\nParents and CoachesWe want to help you encourage your athlete to be proactive with their health practices on and off the field/court. The screen can be a first step in this endeavor as it allows us to provide you and the athlete more information that may help them understand their limitations\, decrease their chance of injury\, and even potentially elevate their performance. When we understand our bodies\, we are more equipped to take care of them.  \n\n\n\nIf you find that your athlete already suffers from recurring injury\, we recommend that you engage with a member of the Spooner team. A more thorough complimentary screening might be warranted\, and we would be more than happy to help you get your athlete scheduled.  \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n RSVP for Spooner Rockwall Screens\n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n LinkedInThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n PhoneHow did you hear about this event?Social MediaA Spooner Team MemberAn Athletic Republic Team MemberThe Rockwall ChamberFlyer at AmeriSportsOther\n Submit

His enthusiasm for physical therapy ignited during this time\, which led him to join Spooner as a Physical Therapist in 2015. Brad is dedicated to providing exceptional care and ensuring a positive experience for every patient who walks through the clinic’s doors. \n\n\n\nIn 2014\, Brad was given the opportunity to travel to Guatemala to provide pro-bono physical therapy to the underserved. This rewarding experience set him on a path of wanting to serve those who do not normally have access to physical therapy. His dream is to continue helping the underserved\, both internationally and locally\, and he looks forward to returning to Guatemala in the future. \n\n\n\nOne of Brad’s favorite parts of being a physical therapist is not only helping a person regain their function\, but also having the opportunity to connect with patients and build relationships. Brad believes that truly getting to know patients is what makes the profession remarkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n EVENT RSVP – Peoria Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop March 2025\n RSVP for the Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop on March 22 at 9:00 AM. \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Guest Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Please skip if you’re not planning to bring a guest.Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner.Cell Phone*Complimentary Movement AssessmentWould you like the Spooner team to reach out to you directly to schedule a Complimentary Movement Assessment?*\n \n Yes\n \n \n No\n Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium. SUMMARY:Understanding Postpartum Incontinence
DESCRIPTION:Urinary incontinence during and after pregnancy is a very common experience\, but it is not something anyone has to suffer through. At this event\, pelvic floor occupational therapist Janette Kuhns OTR/L will explain the different types of incontinence and how they are treated conservatively and holistically. You will learn new habits and exercises you can utilize immediately to start seeing improvements in your symptoms. You will also be able to meet our host\, your local chiropractor\, Dr. Emerald\, who specializes in treating peri/postpartum and pediatric populations\, among others. We are looking forward to meeting you! \n\n\n\nIn Collaboration with & Hosted atBase Camp Health \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3303 S Lindsay Rd\, Suite 113Gilbert\, AZ 85297425.529.7771 \n\n\n\nAt Base Camp Health\, our team is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Dr. Emerald\, our chiropractor\, specializes in gentle\, family-centered care\, using techniques like the Webster Technique to support overall wellness. Aaliyah\, our massage therapist\, provides therapeutic prenatal massage to bring comfort and relaxation to expecting mothers. And\, of course\, Squire—the Best Boy—adds an extra layer of warmth and joy to every visit\, ready with cuddles and tail wags to brighten your day. \n\n\n\nJanette Kuhns\, MOTR/L is a passionate Pelvic Floor and Orthopedic therapist originally from Seattle\, WA. After graduating with a BS in Psychology with a Sport Psychology minor from WWU\, she became a corrective exercise trainer and fell in love with helping people reduce their pain through physical activity and lifestyle redesign. She’s always had a passion for women’s health\, whether it’s the peri- and postpartum population or general pelvic pain and dysfunction. Going into OT school she knew that this was the path she was meant to explore. She has taken continuing education in pelvic floor therapy\, pregnancy rehabilitation\, and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) \n\n\n\nJanette’s goal is to ensure patients receive the care and education that will allow them to continue to be empowered experts on their own bodies. She believes all aspects of your life (mental\, physical\, emotional) contribute to your health and recovery\, no stone should be left unturned. She is passionate about occupational therapy because it has taught her to practice with a whole-person approach that ultimately leads patients back to the activities they love. \n\n\n\nAfter moving from WA to AZ\, you can typically find Janette outdoors soaking up as much sunshine as possible. She loves to go camping with her significant other and their dog\, Macy. They like to take their truck-top tent off the beaten path! She also loves to travel and explore other cultures. She is passionate about living a healthy\, active lifestyle. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n EVENT RSVP – Ahwatukee – Incontinence and the Pelvic Floor Feb 2025\n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Guest Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Please skip if not planning to bring a guest.Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner and Arthritis Foundation.Cell Phone*Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium. \n\n\n\n \n \n EVENT RSVP – Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop\n RSVP for the Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop on Oct 26th at 9:00 AM. \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n FacebookThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Guest Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Please skip if you’re not planning to bring a guest.Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner.Cell Phone*Complimentary Movement AssessmentWould you like the Spooner team to reach out to you directly to schedule a Complimentary Movement Assessment?*\n \n Yes\n \n \n No\n Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium. It often results from overuse\, especially in activities that involve running or jumping. Symptoms typically include pain and stiffness at the back of the ankle\, which may worsen with activity. \n\n\n\nPeroneal Tendinopathy: This condition affects the peroneal tendons located on the outer side of the lower leg. These tendons help stabilize the ankle and foot during movement. Peroneal tendinopathy can cause pain and swelling along the outer ankle\, particularly with activities that involve ankle rotation or lateral movements. \n\n\n\nBoth conditions can significantly impact mobility and athletic performance. Understanding the underlying causes\, symptoms\, and treatment options is crucial for effective management and recovery. \n\n\n\nAbout Dr. Kelsie Effrein:\n\n\n\nDr. Kelsie Effrein is a board-qualified foot and ankle specialist at On The Move Podiatry. She earned her Master’s of Science in Anatomy from Des Moines University in 2015\, followed by her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 2019\, graduating with honors and in the top five of her class. In 2022\, Dr. Effrein completed her residency in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery with Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery at Detroit Medical Center\, where she also served as chief resident. \n\n\n\nDr. Effrein’s extensive residency training included rotations in orthopedic trauma surgery\, infectious disease\, internal medicine\, vascular surgery\, general surgery\, and emergency medicine. She has experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions\, including bunions\, hammertoes\, plantar fasciitis\, and sports-related injuries. \n\n\n\nJoin Us for an Informative Evening! \n\n\n\n \n \n RSVP for Achilles and Peroneal Tendonitis Management and Treatment on Sept 10th\, 2024 at 6:00pm. \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Guest Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Please skip if not planning to bring a guest.Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner.PhoneWould you like to attend live or online?\n \n I will attend at Spooner Anthem\n \n \n I will attend online\n We will be offering a live-stream of the event\, as well as a live event at the Spooner Anthem clinic.Complimentary Movement AssessmentWould you like the Spooner team to reach out to you directly to schedule a Complimentary Movement Assessment?*\n \n Yes\n \n \n No\n Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium.
