His enthusiasm for physical therapy ignited during this time\, which led him to join Spooner as a Physical Therapist in 2015. Brad is dedicated to providing exceptional care and ensuring a positive experience for every patient who walks through the clinic’s doors. \n\n\n\nIn 2014\, Brad was given the opportunity to travel to Guatemala to provide pro-bono physical therapy to the underserved. This rewarding experience set him on a path of wanting to serve those who do not normally have access to physical therapy. His dream is to continue helping the underserved\, both internationally and locally\, and he looks forward to returning to Guatemala in the future. \n\n\n\nOne of Brad’s favorite parts of being a physical therapist is not only helping a person regain their function\, but also having the opportunity to connect with patients and build relationships. Brad believes that truly getting to know patients is what makes the profession remarkable. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n EVENT RSVP – Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop\n RSVP for the Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop on Oct 26th at 9:00 AM. \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Guest Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Please skip if you’re not planning to bring a guest.Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner.Cell Phone*Complimentary Movement AssessmentWould you like the Spooner team to reach out to you directly to schedule a Complimentary Movement Assessment?*\n \n Yes\n \n \n No\n Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium. It often results from overuse\, especially in activities that involve running or jumping. Symptoms typically include pain and stiffness at the back of the ankle\, which may worsen with activity. \n\n\n\nPeroneal Tendinopathy: This condition affects the peroneal tendons located on the outer side of the lower leg. These tendons help stabilize the ankle and foot during movement. Peroneal tendinopathy can cause pain and swelling along the outer ankle\, particularly with activities that involve ankle rotation or lateral movements. \n\n\n\nBoth conditions can significantly impact mobility and athletic performance. Understanding the underlying causes\, symptoms\, and treatment options is crucial for effective management and recovery. \n\n\n\nAbout Dr. Kelsie Effrein:\n\n\n\nDr. Kelsie Effrein is a board-qualified foot and ankle specialist at On The Move Podiatry. She earned her Master’s of Science in Anatomy from Des Moines University in 2015\, followed by her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 2019\, graduating with honors and in the top five of her class. In 2022\, Dr. Effrein completed her residency in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery with Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery at Detroit Medical Center\, where she also served as chief resident. \n\n\n\nDr. Effrein’s extensive residency training included rotations in orthopedic trauma surgery\, infectious disease\, internal medicine\, vascular surgery\, general surgery\, and emergency medicine. SUMMARY:Preventing and Treating Ankle Sprains & Shin Splints in Youth Athletes
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a FREE community event at Spooner Ocotillo! \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an insightful evening with Dr. Vanousheh Ghandhari\, DPM\, FACFAS focused on Prevention and Treatment of Ankle Sprains and Shin Splints in Youth Athletes \n\n\n\nWHENJune 4\, 2024 at 6:00 PM \n\n\n\nWHERESPOONER OCOTILLO4955 S. Alma School Rd.\, Suite 16Chandler\, AZ 85248 \n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Highlights:\n\n\n\n\nInsightful Presentation: Learn from Dr. Ghandhari’s in-depth knowledge and experience in the field of podiatry and sports medicine.\n\n\n\nPractical Tips: Discover practical strategies for preventing and treating ankle sprains and shin splints in youth athletes.\n\n\n\nQ&A Session: Get your questions answered directly by Dr. Ghandhari during the interactive Q&A session.\n\n\n\n\nAnkle SprainsAnkle sprains are one of the most common injuries in youth athletes. They occur frequently due to the combination of physical activity\, rapid movements\, and sometimes inadequate conditioning or training techniques. According to various studies and sports medicine organizations\, ankle sprains account for a significant portion of sports-related injuries among young athletes\, with estimates ranging from 15% to 45% of all sports injuries. This prevalence underscores the importance of education\, prevention strategies\, and proper treatment methods\, as addressed in events like the one featuring Dr. Vanousheh Ghandhari. \n\n\n\nShin Splints \n\n\n\nShin splints are also a common concern among youth athletes\, particularly those engaged in activities involving repetitive impact on the lower legs\, such as running\, jumping\, or sports like basketball and soccer. While estimates vary\, studies suggest that shin splints account for a significant proportion of overuse injuries in young athletes\, ranging from 4% to 35% of all sports-related injuries. \n\n\n\nFactors contributing to the prevalence of shin splints include biomechanical issues\, inadequate footwear\, training errors (such as sudden increases in intensity or duration)\, and playing surfaces. Proper conditioning\, appropriate footwear\, gradual training progression\, and addressing biomechanical issues can help reduce the risk of shin splints in youth athletes. \n\n\n\nEvents like the one featuring Dr. Vanousheh Ghandhari provide valuable insights into prevention and treatment strategies to help young athletes stay healthy and perform at their best while minimizing the risk of injuries like shin splints. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Vanousheh Ghandhari\, DPM\, FACFAS\, is a renowned podiatrist specializing in sports medicine\, currently practicing at Ocotillo Foot & Ankle. With years of experience and expertise\, Dr. Ghandhari is dedicated to helping athletes achieve peak performance while minimizing the risk of injury. \n\n\n\nDr. Ghandhari is board certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She is an active member and President (2022-Present) of the Arizona Foot and Ankle Medical Association\, and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. She is affiliated with Chandler Regional Medical Center in Phoenix and the Arizona Orthopedic & Surgical Specialty Hospital. \n\n\n\nDr. Ghandhari specializes in: \n\n\n\n\nRearfoot and ankle reconstruction\n\n\n\nFoot and ankle fractures\n\n\n\nLapiplasty bunionectomy\n\n\n\nTotal ankle replacement \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP TODAY!\n\n\n\n \n \n EVENT RSVP –Ankle Sprains and Shin Splints – Spooner Ocotillo\n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Guest Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Please skip if not planning to bring a guest.Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner and Arthritis Foundation.Cell Phone*Complimentary Movement AssessmentWould you like the Spooner team to reach out to you directly to schedule a Complimentary Movement Assessment?*\n \n Yes\n \n \n No\n Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium. Dr Joel Sellers & Dr. Tom Sellers will discuss alternatives to invasive surgery\, including the use of Orthobiologics and PRP Therapy concerning the treatment of mild arthritis\, muscle sprains\, tears\, ligament issues\, and tendon issues with a focus on the shoulder. \n\n\n\nWHEN: MAY 22ND at 6:00 PM \n\n\n\nWHERE: Spooner Old Town OR VIRTUAL \n\n\n\nSpooner Old Town7555 E Osborn Rd Unit 200Scottsdale\, AZ 85251 \n\n\n\nJoin us in person at Spooner Old Town OR online via Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent to all participants who elect to attend virtually\, prior to the event. \n\n\n\nOrthobiologics are substances that Sports Medicine doctors like Dr. Sellers use to help injuries heal more quickly. They are used to improve the healing of broken bones and injured muscles\, tendons\, and ligaments. These products are often made from substances that are naturally found in your body. When they are used in higher concentrations\, they may help speed up the healing process. \n\n\n\nPlatelet-rich plasma therapy\, or PRP therapy. Platelets are components of our own blood that have the ability to promote healing in an area of injury or pain. Platelet-rich plasma therapy\, or PRP therapy\, involves the injection of the patient’s own concentrated source of platelets in order to stimulate the body’s own healing of damaged tissue. PRP therapy does not involve surgery and is typically used to treat arthritis\, muscle sprains\, tears\, ligament issues\, and tendon issues. \n\n\n\nHigh-level athletes have used PRP therapy for many years in order to accelerate healing when dealing with pain or injury. Recent advancements in the field of orthobiologic medicine have made it possible to offer these innovative procedures to all patients who are good candidates. \n\n\n\nRSVP TODAY\n\n\n\nHow does PRP Therapy Work?\n\n\n\nThe procedure begins by obtaining a sample of the patient’s blood. The sample is then placed in a high-spinning centrifuge machine. The spinning separates the blood into different components: red blood cells and plasma. Within the plasma layer are the platelets. After a second spin in the centrifuge\, we concentrate and isolate the platelets.  \n\n\n\nA concentrated source of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into and around the injured or damaged tissue. The concentrated source of platelets promotes the natural healing of damaged ligaments\, cartilage\, tendons and joints.. \n\n\n\nAt Sellers Sports Medicine\, our PRP is concentrated enough that the patient only needs one injection\, no need for a series of multiple injections for the same treatment.  \n\n\n\nThe entire process takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.  \n\n\n\nPRP therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions and injuries associated with the shoulder\, elbow\, wrist\, hand\, hip\, knee\, ankle\, and foot. See more below. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLearn more\n\n\n\nTo learn more about Dr Joel Sellers & Dr. Tom Sellers and Sellers Sports Medicine & Family Practice\, please visit: sellerssportsmed.com \n\n\n\nTo learn more about services offered by the Sellers Sports Medicine & Family Practice team\, please visit: sellerssportsmed.com/#services \n\n\n\nFollow Sellers Sports Medicine & Family Practice on social media: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Refreshments and light snacks will be available for all in attendance.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED – Knee Replacement? The Benefits of MAKOplasty
DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed and will NOT be hosted on April 11. We will post an update and email all registered attendees with a new date and time.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAre you considering a total knee replacement? Do you experience knee pain associated with activity\, knee swelling\, knee locking?\n\n\n\nYou’re invited to join us for a free community event hosted by Desert Orthopedic Center and Spooner Anthem.\n\n\n\nThis event was designed for patients suffering from unicompartmental or bicompartmental knee disease and patients with osteoarthritis symptoms such as knee pain associated with activity\, knee swelling\, knee locking and failure to respond to non-surgical treatment. \n\n\n\nYou will hear from: \n\n\n\nDr. Mark Allen\, Desert Orthopedic Center\, on the benefits of MAKOplasty – in contrast to a traditional total knee replacement.Parker Hirsch\, PT\, DPT\, Spooner Anthem\, on the benefits of pre-surgical physical therapy to prepare your body for surgery and optimize recovery\, as well as physical therapy after surgery to maximize results and return you to doing the things you love. \n\n\n\nWHEN:April 11\, 20246:00 – 7:00 PM \n\n\n\nA NEW DATE AND TIME WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON \n\n\n\nWHERE:Spooner Anthem41810 N Venture Dr Building C\, Suite 120Phoenix\, AZ 85086 \n\n\n\nRSVP TODAY!\n\n\n\nMAKOplasty\n\n\n\nMAKOplasty® is a novel surgical procedure performed to relieve pain caused by joint degeneration due to osteoarthritis. It is performed using robotic-arm technology that allows the surgeon to precisely perform the surgery through a smaller incision as compared to traditional surgery. \n\n\n\nYour doctor may order a few X-rays and CT scan to determine the damaged areas of the joint that need to be removed for the precise placement of the knee implant. \n\n\n\nDuring the MAKOplasty® procedure\, a four to six-inch incision is made over your knee with small incisions over your thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia). Only the diseased portion of your knee is removed\, preserving the surrounding healthy bone and tissue. An implant is then secured over the prepared portion of your knee joint resulting in resolution of symptoms and a natural knee movement. \n\n\n\nBenefits\n\n\n\nMAKOplasty ® offers the following benefits: \n\n\n\n\nReplaces only the arthritic portion of the joint\n\n\n\nMore ideal joint function\n\n\n\nAccurate implant positioning\n\n\n\nSmaller incision\n\n\n\nBone and tissue sparing\n\n\n\nMinimal hospitalization\n\n\n\nRapid recovery\n\n\n\n\nSince healthy bone is preserved\, patients who undergo MAKOplasty® may have a total knee replacement procedure later\, if required. MAKOplasty® is usually covered by health insurance. Your doctor will discuss the associated benefits and risks of the procedure. \n\n\n\nMAKOplasty® Partial Knee Resurfacing\n\n\n\nWho would be a good candidate for the MAKOplasty® procedure?  \n\n\n\nAlthough the best treatment for each patient must be determined individually\, typical MAKOplasty® patients share the following characteristics: \n\n\n\nKnee pain with activity\, on the inner knee\, under the knee cap or the outer knee. \n\n\n\nStart-up knee pain or stiffness when activities are initiated from a sitting position. \n\n\n\nFailure to respond to non-surgical treatment such as rest\, weight loss\, physical therapy and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication.
