SUMMARY:From Fatigue to Performance: Understanding Running Economy and Gait Mechanics
DESCRIPTION:COMPLETE THE RSVP FORM BELOW TO SAVE YOUR SPOT. LIMITED TO 75 LIVE PARTICIPANTS \n\n\n\nLearn how gait mechanics\, movement efficiency\, and running economy influence fatigue\, performance\, and injury risk—and discover practical strategies you can immediately apply in training and clinical practice. \n\n\n\nHow does fatigue change movement\, performance\, and injury risk—and what can we do about it as sports medicine clinicians?\n\n\n\nJoin us on Saturday July 11th from 9-10 am at the Spooner Sports Institute to learn more. \n\n\n\nRunning economy is one of the most studied markers of endurance performance and provides valuable insight into how fatigue influences athletic movement. As fatigue accumulates during training and competition\, athletes often experience measurable changes in biomechanics\, movement efficiency\, and physiological performance. This presentation will explore the current evidence surrounding fatigue-induced changes in running economy and gait mechanics as a model for understanding broader fatigue-related adaptations in sport. \n\n\n\nAttendees will learn from sports physiologists and gain a deeper understanding of how fatigue affects movement efficiency and performance\, which biomechanical metrics appear most sensitive to performance decline\, and how lessons learned from endurance runners can be applied across athletic populations to inform training and rehabilitation.  \n\n\n\nAfter this session\, attendees will be able to:\n\n\n\n\nExplain the key factors that influence running economy\n\n\n\nIdentify common gait mechanics associated with increased energy cost\n\n\n\nRecognize movement patterns that may contribute to fatigue and injury\n\n\n\nApply practical coaching and clinical strategies to improve running efficiency\n\n\n\nTranslate current evidence into real-world athlete care\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend?\n\n\n\nPhysical Therapists\, Athletic Trainers\, Physical Therapist Assistants\, Sports Medicine Physicians\, Running Coaches\, Strength & Conditioning Professionals\, Students Interested in Sports Medicine \n\n\n\nAthletic Trainers: Better understand the relationship between biomechanics\, workload\, fatigue\, and injury risk. \n\n\n\nPhysical Therapists: Explore current evidence and clinical applications related to running gait and economy. \n\n\n\nStrength & Conditioning Professionals + Running Coaches: Gain practical insights to help athletes move more efficiently and perform at a higher level. \n\n\n\nApproved for: 1 Cat A Con Ed for ATs\, Cat B for PTs \n\n\n\nMeet the Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlexa Lobato: Alexa Lobato\, MS\, is the Head Performance Physiologist at Human Powered Health. Prior to joining Human Powered Health in 2024\, she worked in collegiate and professional sports\, including Major League Soccer\, before founding Optimum Athletics\, a mobile human performance assessment company born from her passion for making comprehensive\, data-driven performance testing more accessible. Her experience spans everyone from beginner youth athletes to elite competitors and active adults\, with a background that bridges research\, rehabilitation\, and performance. \n\n\n\nOutside of work\, Alexa has always been drawn to strength training\, with the weight room serving as the foundation of her own fitness journey. Since moving to Arizona and joining Human Powered Health\, she has developed a growing appreciation for endurance sports. As both a strength athlete and beginner endurance athlete\, she values the unique challenges and rewards that different forms of physical activity provide and believes movement is a powerful tool. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarson Gantzer: Carson Gantzer\, CSCS is a Performance Physiologist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist at Human Powered Health with experience working with general population and athletes ranging from youth soccer players to professional combat sport athletes. SUMMARY:MSKU-2: Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound of the Lower Extremities
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:\n\n\n\nDiagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSKU) is an evidence-based\, cost-efficient\, imaging modality. MSKU has diagnostic accuracy comparable to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for common soft tissue pathology\, including enthesopathy\, tendinopathy\, ligament pathology\, joint pathology\, and compressive neuropathies of the lower extremities. Licensed healthcare professionals including physical therapists (PT)\, medical doctors (MD)\, osteopathic doctors (DO)\, Chiropractors (DC)\, physician assistants (PA)\, and nurse practitioners (NP) meet the educational requirements to practice MSKU and work towards the prerequisites needed to sit for the national registry exam in musculoskeletal sonography (RMSK). \n\n\n\nThis two-day live diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound course includes 70% hands-on practical training and 30% didactic instruction. This course focuses on the essential components of diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound of the lower extremity. Participants will perform diagnostic ultrasound on the hip\, knee\, ankle\, and foot. Both normal anatomy and pathology of specific tissues will be addressed in detail. This course does include but is not limited to tissue specific diagnoses of the lower extremity\, including joint effusions\, hip capsule/labral pathology\, gluteal/hamstring tendinopathy\, patellar/quad tendinopathy\, patellar impingement syndromes\, collateral ligament pathology\, meniscal pathology\, osteoarthritis\, achilles/peroneal/posterior tibialis tendinopathy\, and plantar fasciitis. \n\n\n\nLecture and live demonstrations with expert sonographers\, using state-of-the-art equipment\, are utilized to prepare the participant for extensive scanning during the laboratory sessions. The upper and lower extremity courses (MSKU-1 & 2) combined with the Physics in MSK ultrasound (MSKU-3) and RMSK Registry Exam Preparation & Review (MSKU-4) courses are designed to successfully prepare the participant for the national RMSK registry exam. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Today

SUMMARY:Ground Up QB Camp Athlete Screens
DESCRIPTION:During the Ground Up QB Camp athletes will take part in an athlete screen. We want to make sure you know to expect: \n\n\n\nWhat is the athlete screen: \n\n\n\n\nThe athlete screen involves a series of tests (9 stations) designed to assess an athlete’s movement\, mechanics\, and range of motion\, from head to toe. Our goal is to help the athlete identify areas of opportunity for improved mobility\, flexibility\, strength\, and performance.\n\n\n\n\nWhat we need pre-screen: \n\n\n\n\nFor any athlete under the age of 18 we need a parent/guardian to a consent to treat\, for those over the age of 18\, you may sign the consent to treat which provides approval for the Spooner team to complete the evaluation.\n\n\n\n\nWhy we do it: \n\n\n\n\nTo decrease your chance of injury\, understand your current limitations and what you can do to work on them\, and/or improve overall performance.  \n\n\n\nWhile some discoveries may lead us to recommend further evaluation from a physical therapist\, the larger purpose is to provide support to the athlete so they can be successful as possible in their sport and position.  \n\n\n\nWhen people understand their bodies\, they are more equipped to take care of them\, the information from the athlete screen will help you understand your current limitations and give you strategies to improve them. \n\n\n\n\nHow long does it take?  \n\n\n\n\nThe Spooner team will have about 90 minutes to get all athletes through the screen during the Ground Up Event on Saturday January 20th\n\n\n\n\nWho has done it? \n\n\n\n\nThe athlete screen has been done on professional athletes\, collegiate and high school athletes over the past 15 years. The information from the screen has successfully decreased the chance of injury\, improved overall function\, and increased performance\, both for individuals and teams\, for those who have used the information given post screen and added it in to their work outs\, practices\, lifts\, etc.
