SUMMARY:KJD: Knee Junction Dilemma
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \n\n\n\nKJD offers a broad introduction to the Functional Manual Therapy® system of patient care with an intensive focus on the anatomical structures related to the knee. This lab-intensive course blends material from a spectrum of the core curriculum courses and then expands upon that material\, providing additional techniques and concepts not presented in the core curriculum classes. KJD is designed to meet the needs of both individuals new to IPA and those seeking to expand their knowledge beyond the core curriculum of IPA. \n\n\n\nThe dilemma addressed in KJD is the amplified impact of subtle dysfunctions of the hip or foot & ankle on the knee secondary to the long lever arms of the femur and tibia. Therefore\, KJD participants will first be guided through select interventions for the foot & ankle and the hip before systematically working through an extensive series of direct treatments to the knee and surrounding structures. To effectively manage a knee\, restoring a more optimal state of function for the entire lower extremity is necessary. \n\n\n\nThrough demonstration and supervised lab sessions\, the participant will develop advanced skills for evaluating and differentiating mechanical\, neuromuscular\, and motor control dysfunctions\, implementing an appropriate plan of care\, and utilizing Functional Mobilization techniques to treat identified dysfunctions. Systematic functional and structural pre- and post-assessments objectively assess the effectiveness of each intervention. \n\n\n\nContact Hours: 16

SUMMARY:Mobilization of the Visceral Fascia - The Gastrointestinal System
DESCRIPTION:Course Description \n\n\n\nThis satellite lab continuing education course provides comprehensive knowledge concerning the relationship between the connective tissue surrounding the visceral structures of the gastrointestinal system and the normal function of the musculoskeletal system. Information is presented on the embryology of the viscera and connective tissue system as it applies to associated visceral and fascial anatomy. Each lecture incorporates the science behind and evidence supporting visceral and fascial-based manual therapy for patients with various musculoskeletal and pelvic health physical therapy diagnoses. \n\n\n\nThis manual therapy course emphasizes clinical reasoning with the goal of immediate implementation of an extensive number of treatment techniques into an existing musculoskeletal and pelvic health practice. The material presented has applications for diagnosis\, such as abdominopelvic pain\, gastroparesis\, GERD\, constipation\, abdominal adhesions\, and urinary issues. Additionally\, the solid organs of the GI system have a profound effect on the thorax\, contributing to spinal issues and breathing pattern dysfunction (Bordoni & Zanier\, 2013). Coursework is geared toward the pelvic health therapist who wishes to integrate advanced manual therapy skills into their treatment regime for their pelvic and orthopedic clientele. \n\n\n\nThis course includes extensive lab work. All attendees should come prepared to participate as both clinician and patient. Male course attendees may participate fully in the entire course\, while pregnant attendees may participate in a limited capacity\, as deep palpation of the abdomen is ill-advised for pregnant women. \n\n\n\nSpecial Considerations \n\n\n\nThis continuing education course includes extensive lab work\, which will be demoed and guided by the instructor. Participants should plan on partnering with another registered therapist or a small group in order to get the full learning experience from this course. \n\n\n\nPrerequisites \n\n\n\nPelvic Function Level 1 at a minimum. For Pediatric therapists\, completion of training such as Pediatrics Level 1 – Treatment of Bowel and Bladder Disorders live course. It is also highly recommended the participant have experience with assessing and treating patients with bowel dysfunction.

SUMMARY:Understanding Postpartum Incontinence
DESCRIPTION:Urinary incontinence during and after pregnancy is a very common experience\, but it is not something anyone has to suffer through. At this event\, pelvic floor occupational therapist Janette Kuhns OTR/L will explain the different types of incontinence and how they are treated conservatively and holistically. You will learn new habits and exercises you can utilize immediately to start seeing improvements in your symptoms. You will also be able to meet our host\, your local chiropractor\, Dr. Emerald\, who specializes in treating peri/postpartum and pediatric populations\, among others. We are looking forward to meeting you! \n\n\n\nIn Collaboration with & Hosted atBase Camp Health \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3303 S Lindsay Rd\, Suite 113Gilbert\, AZ 85297425.529.7771 \n\n\n\nAt Base Camp Health\, our team is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Dr. Emerald\, our chiropractor\, specializes in gentle\, family-centered care\, using techniques like the Webster Technique to support overall wellness. Aaliyah\, our massage therapist\, provides therapeutic prenatal massage to bring comfort and relaxation to expecting mothers. And\, of course\, Squire—the Best Boy—adds an extra layer of warmth and joy to every visit\, ready with cuddles and tail wags to brighten your day. \n\n\n\nJanette Kuhns\, MOTR/L is a passionate Pelvic Floor and Orthopedic therapist originally from Seattle\, WA. After graduating with a BS in Psychology with a Sport Psychology minor from WWU\, she became a corrective exercise trainer and fell in love with helping people reduce their pain through physical activity and lifestyle redesign. She’s always had a passion for women’s health\, whether it’s the peri- and postpartum population or general pelvic pain and dysfunction. Going into OT school she knew that this was the path she was meant to explore. She has taken continuing education in pelvic floor therapy\, pregnancy rehabilitation\, and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) \n\n\n\nJanette’s goal is to ensure patients receive the care and education that will allow them to continue to be empowered experts on their own bodies. She believes all aspects of your life (mental\, physical\, emotional) contribute to your health and recovery\, no stone should be left unturned. His enthusiasm for physical therapy ignited during this time\, which led him to join Spooner as a Physical Therapist in 2015. Brad is dedicated to providing exceptional care and ensuring a positive experience for every patient who walks through the clinic’s doors. \n\n\n\nIn 2014\, Brad was given the opportunity to travel to Guatemala to provide pro-bono physical therapy to the underserved. This rewarding experience set him on a path of wanting to serve those who do not normally have access to physical therapy. His dream is to continue helping the underserved\, both internationally and locally\, and he looks forward to returning to Guatemala in the future. \n\n\n\nOne of Brad’s favorite parts of being a physical therapist is not only helping a person regain their function\, but also having the opportunity to connect with patients and build relationships. Brad believes that truly getting to know patients is what makes the profession remarkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n EVENT RSVP – Peoria Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop March 2025\n RSVP for the Pickleball Warm-up & Injury Prevention Workshop on March 22 at 9:00 AM. \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n PhoneThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Guest Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Please skip if you’re not planning to bring a guest.Email*\n \n We will use your email to send event reminders and other important information from Spooner.Cell Phone*Complimentary Movement AssessmentWould you like the Spooner team to reach out to you directly to schedule a Complimentary Movement Assessment?*\n \n Yes\n \n \n No\n Media ReleaseI grant permission to Spooner and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images taken of me\, for the purpose of publication\, promotion\, illustration\, advertising\, or trade\, in any manner or in any medium.
