FAQS

I’m happy you asked this. The typical medical model in the US is expensive and inflated. Opting for PT first could mean saving big money and getting clear advice quickly.

Let me explain. An urgent care is a triage service that can provide some things in house, but they’re generalists. Movement Plus is also a triage service, but therapists are licensed musculoskeletal specialists. My goal, when you turn to me first, is to provide an efficient, precise and correct decision. That may mean skipping 1-2 other doctor (specialist) visits before you’re eventually referred to physical therapy, anyway. If it’s not a musculoskeletal issue that can be efficiently addressed by a therapist, I’ll also help point you in the right direction and provide you with resources to make your next steps as efficient as possible. Therapists are trained in screening for all types of medical and injury issues, so the answer won’t always be to turn to physical therapy or occupational therapy, but many times for most types of injuries, we will be your most effective and efficient care provider. So, let’s get you there faster and save some extra time and money along the way.

I’m so glad you asked. A typical course after an injury often involves urgent care or the ER, imaging, follow up with primary care or a specialist and finally a referral to physical therapy or occupational therapy. This isn’t efficient. I will collect information and make a diagnosis virtually, in fact, if I need a visual, we can use video chat. Many injuries can be helped immediately with the right advice. I can also help you expedite a consult/evaluation in a Spooner clinic, if necessary. In the event that the injury needs imaging first, I can help you navigate that process by collaborating with your physician or helping you find the right provider.

Contact me with any injury or healthcare question for which you need advice. A physical therapist is an expert at diagnosing injury, and a lot of this process can be done through information you can provide verbally. If you need help outside of the scope of physical therapy, I will help you make the best decision for your situation.

You can message me at any time. Some questions can be answered via chat message, others may require a phone call or video call.

You can contact me as frequently as needed. No question is too small, and I’d love to provide perspective anytime you need healthcare advice. On the flip side, even if the situation is a true emergency and requires immediate medical attention (please, seek that attention before messaging me), I want you to keep me in the loop so I can help you on the back end.

Think of messaging in the Spooner App as a text message. I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can. If you need to talk to me immediately, sending a message in the app describing what’s going on and asking for a call back ASAP will be most efficient.

Yes, if you’re being seen in a Spooner clinic, your PT is your go to source for all questions about your treatment. As the member therapist, I’ll continue to provide support for any administrative questions.

The Spooner app gives you access to a licensed physical therapist for assessment of pain/injury, help with determining your best next step, help with expedited scheduling at a Spooner clinic and help with referrals if your situation requires. You will also have a link to your exercise program, the ability to schedule at a Spooner clinic (particularly if you’re a current patient or know who you want to see) and access to your account to make changes to your plan.

This is a good question. Our membership is geared toward helping you achieve a healthy life. This includes a detailed assessment of your circumstances and your goals. We offer precision recommendations and precision treatment. The package includes a robust independent program to amplify the results of your in-clinic treatment. The ability to chat with your therapist will also help to streamline the process by keeping your therapist in the loop along the way. The whole process is aimed at helping you achieve what you want to achieve–more efficiently.

I’ll make you a promise here, I won’t use “it depends”. Yes. Using a session to provide precision treatment, clarify an effective exercise program and help you understand the factors that cause movement problems and pain can be impactful. Of course, not every situation is a quick fix. We have options to add sessions at member pricing to fit your goals, your needs and your schedule.

You may have read on our Movement Plus page that with both Achieve and Excel membership you can carry over up to 10 sessions. Any unused session(s) will roll over to the next month. For example, if you have Excel membership and use 3 sessions, you will roll 2 sessions over and have 7 available during the next billing cycle. If you used Excel to accrue sessions for 2 months, you would have 10 sessions rolling over and get your 5 sessions for the third month. You can’t roll over any more than those 10 sessions. These types of cases would likely involve special circumstances. If you feel you would have a circumstance requiring you to roll over multiple sessions, over a period of months please contact me so I can help you understand the process and make the choice that will best fit your needs and goals.

Yes, our Membership is designed for flexibility. You can change plans at anytime. It’s important to note that switching from Achieve or Excel to Access voids carryover visits, but switching between Achieve and Excel allows you to retain up to 10 follow up visits (see previous question). I’ll give you a couple of examples:

    • William wants 3 visits per month; he can either switch between Excel (5) and Achieve (1) each month to achieve his visit goals monthly.
    • Joe is having surgery in 2 months. He wants to “bank visits so he can use at least 12 in the first month after surgery. Joe can sign up for Excel and save those visits to carry over, with some to spare if he wants to use 3 visits for pre-surgical treatment (pre-hab, a great idea, by the way).

There are many ways you can use the visit counts and carryover visits to suit your needs, these are a few simple examples. If you have a specific question, contact me at membertherapist@spoonerpt.com and we’ll crunch the numbers!

Yes, the change will be effective at your next billing cycle. I expect and encourage you to use our three memberships to suit your needs. This could mean use of all three memberships throughout your lifetime. I’m looking to use my knowledge to help you achieve a healthy life!

Yes. Keep in mind, you will lose access to all of the benefits of the app at the and of your current billing cycle and any unused visits will be forfeited.

Yes – only with the Access Membership. Achieve and Excel Memberships cannot be used concurrently with health insurance.
