Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema

Breast cancer-related lymphedema can occur in up to 40% of women and men treated for breast cancer and can impact quality of life throughout survivorship. Physical therapy for breast cancer-related lymphedema can help reduce and manage current symptoms, lessen the risk of long-term complications, and help patients safely return to the activities they desire to improve overall quality of life.

Your physical therapist will be specialty-trained to evaluate and treat lymphedema in the upper extremity, chest, and shoulder area. In addition to lymphedema, your therapist is also skilled in assessing the other impairments that may occur following breast cancer treatments, such as various surgical interventions, reconstruction, radiation and/or chemotherapy.

We will implement a whole-body treatment approach to help you return to your desired level of function with a safe return to exercise.
