Ankle Sprains
Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries in youth athletes. They occur frequently due to the combination of physical activity, rapid movements, and sometimes inadequate conditioning or training techniques. According to various studies and sports medicine organizations, ankle sprains account for a significant portion of sports-related injuries among young athletes, with estimates ranging from 15% to 45% of all sports injuries. This prevalence underscores the importance of education, prevention strategies, and proper treatment methods, as addressed in events like the one featuring Dr. Vanousheh Ghandhari.

Shin Splints

Shin splints are also a common concern among youth athletes, particularly those engaged in activities involving repetitive impact on the lower legs, such as running, jumping, or sports like basketball and soccer. While estimates vary, studies suggest that shin splints account for a significant proportion of overuse injuries in young athletes, ranging from 4% to 35% of all sports-related injuries.

Factors contributing to the prevalence of shin splints include biomechanical issues, inadequate footwear, training errors (such as sudden increases in intensity or duration), and playing surfaces. Proper conditioning, appropriate footwear, gradual training progression, and addressing biomechanical issues can help reduce the risk of shin splints in youth athletes.

Events like the one featuring Dr. Vanousheh Ghandhari provide valuable insights into prevention and treatment strategies to help young athletes stay healthy and perform at their best while minimizing the risk of injuries like shin splints.
