It’s the most magical time of the year. This calls for a weekend getaway full of hot chocolate, cozy campfires, and snowball fights. Whether you want to hit the slopes or hike in the valley sunshine, Arizona has beautiful spots all across the state for you to visit. Stay active and get outside this winter by traveling to these Arizona destinations for fun holiday getaways.

Arizona Snowbowl – Flagstaff, AZ

Less than a three-hour drive from the valley, Arizona Snowbowl makes for a perfect winter getaway. Operating since 1938, it is one of the oldest continually run ski areas in the country. It has the largest drop in Arizona at a height of 2,300 feet, with a total of 8 lifts and 55 runs. Just this past October, they unveiled the Arizona Gondola, the official name for the newest high-speed lift in the state of Arizona! Whether you are an experienced snow rider or a new beginner, you are bound to enjoy your time here in the snow.

Fun fact: The mountain is located on the western slope of Mount Humphreys, which is the tallest point in the state of Arizona. It is the most recognizable point on the San Francisco Peaks! Did you know “The Peaks” are what remains of an eroded, dormant stratovolcano that was formed between 500,000 and 1,000,000 years ago?

Summer Haven – Tucson, AZ

But in this case, Winter Haven… Right on the top of Mount Lemmon, Summer Haven is a quaint little mountain town. Mount Lemmon’s Ski Valley provides skiing from December into March and offers the perfect winter escape in Southern Arizona. If you are wanting to switch things up and not venture up north, Summer Haven is a great alternative for a quick weekend ski trip to the country’s southernmost ski resort. Stay active by lacing up your skis or grabbing a sled with the whole family!

Arizona Nordic Village – Flagstaff, AZ

The premier cross-country ski location in Arizona! Better grab your snowshoes. The Arizona Nordic Village has over 25 miles of groomed cross-country. Traditional cross-country skiing is similar to walking or running, but with skis on. From one-on-ones, group lessons, trail passes, and rentals – Arizona Nordic Village has it all. Plus, all of your winter glamping dreams can come true by staying in a 12’ backcountry yurt. Can we get a yurt yurt?!
